According to RealtyTrac, "the average U.S. home price is still 12 percent below where it was in the second quarter of 2006. The average wage nationwide has risen 34 percent and the average interest rate on a 30-year fixed rate mortgage has dropped 44 percent during this time period, resulting in a 48 percent improvement in affordability"

Home prices may be reaching new highs lately, but buying a home is still significantly more affordable than it was during the 2006 housing bubble, according to a new report by RealtyTrac. Low interest rates have largely contributed to keeping homes more affordable in recent months, according to the analysis.

It is included in the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index Series which seeks to measure changes in the total value of all existing single-family housing stock."

Median Sale Price

Last January, the median sale price for Capitol Hill (SE) Homes was $515,000. This January, the median sale price was $637,750, an increase of 24% or $122,750 compared to last year. The current median sold price is 3% lower than in December.
