The Roosevelt Rooms foyer-floor compass-mosaic arrived today. My aim has been to coordinate it with the library rug that will lay just beyond the foyer. With its arrival, a side-by-side comparison is possible and it looks well coordinated. Score!

I'm very pleased to have acquired this dish displaying the flag and initials of the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, of which Theodore Roosevelt was a member. The Club is only about four miles (as the seagull flies) into Oyster Bay from the Roosevelt home at Sagamore Hill. I've also obtained two yachting trophies from other Long Island Sound clubs (Horseshoe Harbor and Manhasset Bay). Both clubs are just a few miles from Sagamore Hill and both trophies are of the era. As was common place at the time, functional items were presented as yachting trophies. The MBYC trophy is a silver cocktail pitcher and the HHYC trophy is a silver and crystal cigar humidor. The trophies and SCYC dish will be displayed in the coming Roosevelt Rooms. The Steel Mangement Group was recently engaged to oversea the construction phase of the rooms.

This is Eleanor Roosevelt's debutante picture. I'm really pleased the way the choice of frame and mat enhance the picture. The frame looks, to me, very in keeping with the Edwardian period when the photo was taken and it looks very nice alongside the eagle sconces. Plenty of set backs as I and Patricia Bolinski work to make The Roosevelt Rooms a reality. This is something that worked-out.

Everyday that something new for the Roosevelt Rooms arrives is like Christmas. Today, this oval table and the antique books (actually boxes) arrived. Some fantastic books: on TR; FDR; Eleanor; prominent figures and important periods in history are on order.

This is exciting! I just nabbed this invitation to "Mr. Crowley" from President Theodore Roosevelt, to attend a White House Reception on January 21, 1904. It will be displayed at the Roosevelt Rooms (likely in the bedroom, now likely to be dubbed: The Crowley Guestroom).

I found this fun postcard for display in the Roosevelt Rooms, once I get it framed. I find it interesting that in TR's era the British monarch, not the British prime minister, was considered the US president's counterpart. I know the monarch is the head of state, but today I think most consider Queen Elizabeth II more a figure-head. Of course, when TR was in the White House the British Empire was still going strong.

This is the latest acquisition for The Roosevelt Rooms: a replica of the Truxtun Defender Bowl. It will fit beautifully with the several historic naval prints obtained for The Roosevelt Rooms.

The Truxtun Defender Bowl is a Chinese porcelain punch bowl made for Captain Thomas Truxtun in 1794. Captain Truxtun is noted for his command of the frigate USS Constellation during the Quasi-War with France in 1798 to 1800. Truxtun had served on privateers during the American Revolutionary War. After the Revolution, as a Philadelphia merchant captain, he was a pioneer of American trade with China. In 1794, Truxtun was appointed one of six captains to oversee the building of the United States Navy's first frigates. That year, to illustrate a book he was publishing on navigation, he asked naval constructor, Josiah Fox, who would play a part in designing these ships, for a drawing of a 44-gun frigate. Truxtun commissioned two punch bowls featuring Fox's drawing. One of these is in the U.S. Navy Museum at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. The other bowl, presented to President George Washington, is in Washington's home of Mount Vernon.

Can't decide which to get next, Guardian of Liberty, by P.M. Simons, a featured artist at Sagamore Hill, or this depiction of a 1092 State Dinner hosted by Theodore Roosevelt. Do you have an opinion?

I can't believe I have to wait 45 days for this piece to arrive; but I'm glad to have it on the way to The Roosevelt Rooms. It is virtually identical to a bust on display in the North Room of Sagamore Hill, a gift to TR from France. Another one is on display in the cross hall of the White House, between the East Room and the State Dining Room.
