A native of Montgomery County and 2nd generation Washingtonian with over 40 years-experience in mortgage lending, Deb Griffin of Chase in Washington, DC has worked with many homebuyers to help them purchase a home. It's a high tide! Well much like most things in life, the September Nor’easter took us by surprise. One minute we are enjoying an early fall weekend in DC full of plans, the next we are scrambling to board our dogs and get to the beach before the next high tide.

This was Sunday morning during high tide. I can attest the water was knee high in most places. Saturday was way worse.

We got through it. We are fine, our house is fine and we laughed a lot along the way.

What does this have to do with mortgages? Well this year’s economic data, inflation, pricing, rates. Yeah, kind of caught us all by surprise. We’ve been through it before. We’ll get through that soon too.

Oh and today… I just looked at my cameras at the beach. It’s a lovely bright sunny day.

** SCAM MAIL ALERT**

At settlement I remind each and every borrower that once your Deed gets recorded you'll get some mail that will look official and it's not.

Earlier this month we re-recorded our Deed and today I received a letter that looks oh so official. Even with the postal code reminding people it is an offense to open someone else's mail. Deeds are part of the public records and our information is out there.

When I opened it up I found it is a solicitation for me to purchase a copy of our Deed. While this is legal, it sure is misleading and not necessary. Our Attorney will send us the Deed once it gets recorded. Worst case we can look it up in the land records for free.

I tell every borrower if you receive mail that is confusing, please send me a copy. I am happy to look at it with you. As rates ebb and flow we will likely receive more solicitations for us to do something.... refinance our rate, get credit life insurance or a home warranty.

Be careful with the mail. It's frustrating for sure... but another thing to watch.

After nearly 40 years in the industry and 35 years originating the honor of earning National Achievers is still as exciting as ever! I am grateful for the opportunity to work at Chase and with my managers Dan Shea and Darcie Gore. I am forever appreciative of my work partner of 21 years, Lisa Bennett.

Mostly, I enjoy working every day being in a career I truly love. I joke about retirement, and honestly I think it will be hard to ever stop as working with my clients is fulfilling. We have so many clients who have trusted us for all of these years. We are currently working with the adult children of one of my very first clients. I love making a difference in their world and lives and being a part of their future.
