Hi, I’m Sunday McIlwain, CEO and Founder of Black Girls Buy Houses. Being a black female business owner brings me joy; through my business, we’re able to help people facing hardships save money and time, alleviate stressful situations, and prevent further financial debt. Helping homeowners through stressful situations is a privilege I don't take lightly. At Black Girls Buy Houses, my team and I sp
ecialize in helping homeowners who are in financial distress, such as facing foreclosure, tax liens, a death in the family, non-paying tenants, damage requiring costly repairs, or a need to sell a house quickly. We are a service solution-based business that is down-to-earth and operates with empathy, trust, passion, and integrity. We find what options best fit the household and buy houses in any condition with cash, do not charge commissions, and close quickly and easily so the homeowner can escape a stressful situation and move on with their lives. We connect these distressed properties with carefully curated local top investors and developers who repair each property with care, restoring the home’s value and aesthetics, and adding to the overall value of the community. The most fulfilling part is knowing that we were able to help a family move on to new opportunities. Growing up I wasn’t taught about real estate, investing, or building long-term wealth. And although my formal education is in social work, through my early career experiences I learned that real estate is the quickest way to build generational wealth. I knew the time and experience I would receive on a regular 9-5 job wouldn't allow me the life I wanted to live. Becoming an off-market property investor was attractive to me because I have a passion for helping people and learned I could provide creative solutions for homeowners who need to move on from their homes, as well as provide high quality housing for those who can least afford it. He taught me how to work with less and get big results. His strategies allowed me to think outside the box to get the outcome I'm looking for. For example, demonstrating decisive and creative leadership skills requires business planning. Creating objectives for my business is crucial for growth and being a leader of a team. In a competitive market, I separate myself from my competition as well as meet the needs of my clients, and I am a proud recipient of a Top 100 Best Outstanding Leadership 2022 award from Realty 2.0. Outside of work, I enjoy going out to eat, trying new cuisines, learning new recipes, going out for walks, bowling, traveling, watching YouTube videos, and spending time with friends or at church. I am passionate about giving back to the community, and I have founded the non-profit "I'm Homeless Not Helpless." Black Girls Buy Houses gives 10% of our profit to the homeless and those in need through this foundation. We are excited to expand the non-profit and make real changes in our community.
