POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Loan Service Representative Effective Date: November 2021
Reports to: Loan Manager Status: Non-Exempt
Supervises: None

Primary Function
Promotes the credit union’s loan products and services to potential and existing members. Receives and initiates calls to assist members regarding borrowing needs and options. Ensures conditions for pre and post loan closings are cleared. Perfects liens on collateral, insurance placement and documentation. Performs VISA credit card file maintenance. Provides the highest level of quality member service.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Communicates promotional information about loan products to members and answers inquiries from members concerning loan services.
2. Assists members in completion of consumer, credit card and mortgage loan applications.
3. Performs loan disbursals, in-person or electronically, complying with all approval criteria.
4. When disbursing funds, makes sure the member is familiar with all the terms, conditions, and collateral held on the note and disclosure.
5. Performs all administrative duties associated with the VISA credit card program, establishing accounts, and performing account maintenance.
6. Gathers, compiles, and prepares loan documents, liens, files, reports, and/or other legal matters relating to loans.
7. Maintains and updates the security interest and insurance of all vehicle loans, title tracking, ensuring accurate and complete record retention. Release liens at the request and, on approval of the lending team.
8. Maintains member loan files.
9. Represents the credit union in a courteous and professional manner. Provides prompt, efficient, and accurate service to members. Maintains member confidentiality.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
One to two years’ experience in lending in a credit union or other financial institution preferred. Knowledge of lending principles and procedures, loan services, and credit union philosophy ideal. A 2-year college degree or completion of specialized course study/certification in business and/or financial services. Well-developed communication and analytical skills required.

Knowledge of Microsoft office products preferred: MS. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. Proficiency in Spanish preferred.

Primary Function

Interviews and counsels members regarding borrowing needs and options. Underwrites, disburses
and services consumer and credit card loans.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintains thorough knowledge of all consumer loan and credit card products, and related loan policies and procedures. Responds to member inquiries related to new or existing loan accounts.

2. Maintains knowledge of student lending field, and underwrites student loan participations.

3. Interviews and counsels members in the areas of personal and household budgets, credit, credit building or repair, and general financial management. Intakes and underwrites consumer loans and credit card applications.

4. Approves loan requests based on their lending authority and borrowers’ eligibility. Escalates to the department’s manager loan requests that fall outside lending authority.

5. Discloses to, and educates members on, all loan product features; repayment terms and conditions; as well as consumer protections from application to disbursal and repayment.

6. Gathers, compiles, and electronically safe keeps all loan documents, liens, files, reports, and/or other legal matters relating to loans.

7. Identifies member trends and/or behavior modifications in loan requests or repayments. Communicates and/or makes recommendations for changes to lending policies and procedures to expand credit access, improve borrowers’ experience and increase operating efficiencies.

8. Represents the credit union in a courteous and professional manner. Provides prompt, efficient and accurate service to members. Maintains member confidentiality.

9. Performs other duties as assigned. Skills, Knowledge, and Experience College degree or equivalent job experience. Minimum three years’ experience in a financial institution, with a minimum of two years in a credit granting post. Knowledge of lending and underwriting principles and procedures, loan services, and credit union philosophy. Sound communication and analytical skills required.
