🎓 On July 22, the Student Aid Alliance hosted its annual summer Ice Cream Social with Members of Congress, congressional staff, and student aid advocates. We would like to extend our appreciation to Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI-4) and Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL-5) for attending and emphasizing the importance of investing in student aid funding to strengthen our nation. Their leadership on these issues, along with many other Members of Congress of both parties, is greatly appreciated. Thank you to the key committee staff and bipartisan group of over 70 congressional offices who also attended the event to show their support for robust investment in student aid.

The Student Aid Alliance is working every day to protect and strengthen federal student aid programs like the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Pell Grants, TRIO, and Federal Work Study because every student who wants to go to college should have access to an affordable education.

The Student Aid Alliance is working every day to protect and strengthen federal student aid programs like the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Pell Grants, TRIO, and Federal Work Study because every student who wants to go to college should have access to an affordable education.

On April 29, we brought this conversation to Capitol Hill, where we were joined by a bipartisan group of congressional staffers who came out to show their support for student aid and inquire about the political and structural challenges these programs are facing. Staffers heard from a panel of experts on the importance and impact these programs have on our nation’s students.

We would like to issue a special thank you to our panelists: Chaundy McKeever, a Ph.D. student in Physics at Indiana University; Dr. Latoya Jenkins, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore; Dr. Angela Johnson, Chair Elect of the NASFAA Board of Directors; Zenaida De La Cruz, a TRIO Upward Bound recipient; and Dr. Emmanual Guillory, Senior Director of Government Relations at ACE – moderator.

We need you to speak up: Federal Work-Study and SEOG programs at colleges and universities are in danger. Lawmakers are going to cut aid to students and stall further increases to the Pell Grant.

Tell Congress you oppose these cuts:

The House and Senate are poised to cut funding for Federal Work-Study (FWS) and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) if they don’t hear from you now.
