Informal employment in Türkiye's labor market leaves too many workers without legal protection, recourse, or benefits — exposing them to serious risks when economic shocks hit.

A project supported by the World Bank and EU helped provide financing to small- and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in manufacturing, that had strong potential to create formal employment opportunities.

These roles have drawn the long-term unemployed, women, and youths into the formal labor market, offering more stable incomes and opportunities to build valuable vocational and technical skills.
