EP Federal Credit Union

EP Federal Credit Union EPFCU is a strong financial institution that demonstrates a commitment to the needs of its membership

The EP Federal Credit Union was originally chartered in 1935 by 10 employees of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing for the purpose of 'promoting thrift and providing a source of credit' for the employees there. During the late 1970's and 1980's, the credit union made several charter changes through mergers and expansions to include other organizations and grow our potential field of membership.

Two major groups were the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the students and faculty of Catholic University of America and American University. We continued to serve these groups through traditional means through the first decade of the Twenty First Century. In 2011, NCUA, our regulatory agency, approved a very simple change to our name - from Engraving & Printing to EP Federal Credit Union. This change might have gone unnoticed had it not been for the accompanying huge changes in our method of service delivery. Over time, our opportunities for growth had shifted to our EPA and student fields of membership and our board of directors made a strategic decision to employ the dynamics of technology available to the financial services industry to enhance acccess for our members. Along with our name change we introduced a new logo, and a new tagline demonstrating our new committment. Our focus was redirected to virtual service delivery and to helping our members show their concern for the environment.

June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Let this serve as your reminder that we all play a major role in protecting older adults from financial exploitation. If you are an older adult or have an older loved one, be vigilant and ask questions. Scammers aren't the only people who target older adults; friends, family members, and caregivers are often at the forefront, pressuring elders to make harmful financial decisions that are not in their best interest.

Remember this: you should never feel embarrassed to question whether something is legitimate. Asking questions, slowing down, and double‑checking details are signs of strength, not weakness.

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe:

-Be cautious of unsolicited calls, emails, or messages asking for money or personal information.
-Never feel pressured to act immediately — legitimate organizations will give you time.
-Verify requests by contacting the company or person directly using a trusted phone number.
-Talk openly with someone you trust if something feels “off.”
-Keep an eye on financial accounts for unusual activity.

Together, we can build a community where older adults feel informed, supported, and protected — not isolated or ashamed.
