💔💔When we were kids, Mom would make herself a cup of coffee every morning. Then somebody needed breakfast, somebody couldn't find their shoes, and somebody was crying over nothing. By the time the house got quiet, her coffee was ice cold. We laughed about it back then. Now I realize she spent so many years taking care of everybody else that even a hot cup of coffee felt like a luxury. I hope somebody takes care of her like that someday.

When my daughter moved into her first apartment, I helped her pack everything she owned. Old school trophies, stuffed animals, books she hadn't touched in years. I joked that I was finally getting my spare room back. But that night, I stood in her empty bedroom longer than I care to admit. I thought growing up meant watching your kids leave. I never realized it also meant learning how to live with all the little things they leave behind.

Grandma had an old calendar hanging beside her refrigerator. Every birthday was written in her shaky handwriting, with little hearts beside our names. She'd call each of us, even if we hadn't talked in months. One Christmas, I noticed she'd started writing the birthdays a little bigger. Her eyesight wasn't what it used to be. I used to think those calls were just something grandmas did. Now I wonder how many times she felt forgotten while making sure nobody else did.
