So there is a lot to unpack here with this article. So let me give you an overview of what’s happening.
When I got into the bail bond business 16 years ago, I went to a Bail Agent Association meeting near Indianapolis. The people that were in charge of the association at that time essentially said that the bail bond industry was slowly bleeding to death.
Ever since that day, I kind of started looking at & keeping a Plan B and even a plan C in the back of my mind.
I tried to start a tactical shop about 7-8 years ago. It just wasn’t the right time so I continued doing bonds.
I can’t quite remember, but somewhere around the end of 2023/January 2024, I was told that the K County judges were having a meeting to talk about bonds. A few days later, I was told that not much was going to change, which wasn’t necessarily true come to find out.
I was on pins and needles for a while. Didn’t know exactly how it was going to play out nor how the changes were going to affect us bail bondsman.
The last part of July/1st part of August 2024, I landed in the critical care unit in Bozeman, Montana for four days. At that point, I had my bail bond business, the bail bond property where my office is located. My wife and I own the small commercial property that you see in the picture, and she had an antique business that was starting to grow.
My wife and I just decided to start simplifying our lives. I still have to keep my bail bond license as I still have active clients going through the court process. Will I transition out of bonds when that’s done? More than likely yes but that won’t be for a little while yet. Plus I still need to locate and apprehend my clients if they skip court. Plus, we do hunt for other bondsman both in & from out of state.
For now, I will continue to do bonds for some who meet stricter requirements & for for some people that I’ve met that I have appreciated getting to know.
I have started the process of selling Ace Bail Bonds property & my personal property that’s in it.
I spend all my time at Westside Tactical store now. Don’t be a stranger. Stop in and say hi. If I’m not busy, we’ll sit and chat for awhile.
Local bail bondsman Curtis Stavedahl has wanted to run a tactical gear store in Warsaw for quite some time, but the timing was never right.
