The Van Buren Public Library and the Warren Public Library are doing wonderful things for their communities. Stop by and check out a good book!
In honor of the ghost hunting season and the hungriest little ghost ever, Slimer, we are partnering with local businesses to host a food drive to benefit Harvest House. Through November 7, stop by to donate non perishable food items at the library. While any item will accepted, high need items include canned chicken, canned meats, canned peaches, canned pears, peanut butter, cereal, and shelf stable milk. We are working with local businesses and organizations and some of these high need items will be matched! To begin, we have Rufener Financial who will match each can of chicken received. Thank you Rufener Financial.
Even more exciting is the partnership with Wolfie's Time Out Tavern. When you bring in 5 food items or $5, you will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Blackstone grill courtesy of Wolfie’s!! Thank you Wolfie’s for offering up such an incredible prize!!!
We will be accepting donations of food at the library - including the evening of the Halloween block party. Monetary donations can be made only at Wolfie’s.
While we ask all ages to contribute as they are able, we think it’s the perfect season to help our youngest patrons learn how to give to others. If you’re looking for ways to talk with your child about food insecurity, food pantries, hunger, and about giving to others or even just what a food drive is, please let us help by suggesting some age appropriate children’s books that introduce difficult subjects in a way they can understand. We think it can be combined well with the Halloween block party where they will receive treats from the community. Our talented library assistant, Elisabeth, made this silly Slimer so that the kids can “feed” him donations.
So, bring Slimer a snack (or 5) and let’s help support our community!
