The state's new hands-free law will require drivers to put down their phones, tablets, and other electronic devices while driving.
Under the new law, drivers are NOT allowed to:
-Hold or support a mobile device with their hand or body (smart watches and earpieces used for voice-based communication are OK).
-Use a mobile device to read, compose, or transmit texts, emails, app interactions or website info
-Watch motion on the device, including a video, movie, game, or video call
After a 180-day warning period, penalties will include a $100 fine upon first offense, and a $200 fine and two points on the driving record for each subsequent offense within a three-year period.
