😌 National Relaxation Day, because a getaway is maintenance, not a luxury.
Between managing a household, staying on top of appointments, and everything else on the list, it's easy to let "someday I'll get away" slide indefinitely. Today's a good nudge not to.
If you're within driving distance of the Bay Area and looking for an actual reason to leave town this month, here are four real options worth the tank of gas:
🌲 1. Carneros Resort and Spa, Napa, CA (1 hour from Walnut Creek)
Set on 28 acres of farmland at the southern gateway to wine country, with a guest-exclusive spa and individual cottage-style accommodations. Good for a couple who wants privacy without total isolation.
🍇 2. Meadowood Napa Valley, St. Helena, CA (1 hour from Walnut Creek)
A quiet, understated luxury resort tucked into the hills above the valley floor, with a full-service spa built around treatments that draw on the surrounding vineyards and forest. Close enough for a spontaneous overnight, calm enough that it doesn't feel like it.
🛁 3. Indian Springs Calistoga, Calistoga, CA (1 hour 15 minutes from Walnut Creek)
Home to Calistoga's original geothermal mineral pool and mud-bath tradition, dating back to the 1860s. Simple, low-key, and centered entirely around actually slowing down rather than a resort full of activities.
🌊 4. Hyatt Carmel Highlands, Carmel Highlands, CA (2.5 hours from the East Bay)
Perched on the bluffs above Big Sur with ocean views from nearly every room and an on-site spa with couples' treatment rooms. The furthest of the four, and worth the extra drive time for the coastline alone.
