Did Fannie Mae really drop the credit score requirement? Yes, but it doesn’t actually change much. We’ve always been able to underwrite loans with credit scores as low as 500. The catch? You still need strong compensating factors like a 10% down payment, 6 months of reserves, low payment shock, and more.
