Why did your Medicare premium increase when your income feels different now?
IRMAA, the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount, is an extra charge added to Medicare Part B and Part D premiums. It’s generally based on the income reported on your tax return from two years earlier, so a notice can seem disconnected from what happened recently.
If you retired, got married or divorced, or experienced another qualifying life-changing event that reduced your income, you may be able to request reconsideration using Form SSA-44. Some people continue paying the higher amount simply because they didn’t know they could ask.
Bring your IRMAA notice to us. We’ll walk through it and coordinate with your tax professional, not replace them.
