Feeling blessed today.

Whenever people find out I used to be a police officer, they constantly ask if I miss it. I usually tell them there are parts I miss, but I don’t miss missing out on moments like this. Just a nice, quiet morning watching both kiddos enjoy each other.

I don’t miss the missed life events. I don’t miss being so tired that I’d skip going to lunch with my dad. I don’t miss the heavy toll the job took on my body, mind, and soul.
Don’t get it twisted—law enforcement is a rewarding career and a noble path. Some might say I couldn’t cut it or that I was weak. But the people who truly know me know the real reason I left.

I didn’t want to miss my daughter growing up. I refuse to be the dad who isn’t there. My dad was at basically every single game, match, and whatever else I needed him for. He is the man I want to model. I want to be known as the dad who always shows up.

If there’s a message here, it’s this: don’t wait until it’s too late to spend time with the ones you love. Put the phone down, turn the TV off, and be present. We never know how much time we have left.

I miss my dad daily. I wish so badly he could see his grandbabies. But I know he’s looking down on us, and I know he’s playing the golden golf courses up there today.

We named him after my dad, Anthony Valentino Fabbian, whose birthday was this past Saturday. It has been almost four years since he passed, but I know he’s blessing us from above.

Our family is feeling so full of love and gratitude right now. Tristan is a gift, and carrying my dad’s name forward makes it even more special.
