CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH — OCTOBER 2026

At Ramiscal Equitan Advisors (REA), we believe that building wealth is only part of the financial journey. Protecting what you and your family have worked so hard to achieve is equally important.

As technology continues to transform how we communicate, bank, and invest, cybercriminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated. They use fraudulent emails, text messages, phone calls, fake investment opportunities, and even artificial intelligence to impersonate trusted people and institutions.

Older investors deserve particular attention. Many have spent a lifetime accumulating savings and retirement assets, making the financial consequences of a successful scam potentially devastating.

Here are seven important steps to help protect yourself and your loved ones:

1. STOP, THINK, AND VERIFY. Never rush to transfer money or disclose personal information because of an unexpected call, email, or text message.
2. PROTECT YOUR PASSWORDS. Use strong, unique passwords and enable multifactor authentication on financial and email accounts.
3. BEWARE OF IMPERSONATORS. Criminals may pretend to be your bank, financial advisor, government agency, or even a family member. Always verify through a trusted telephone number.
4. QUESTION UNUSUAL INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES. Promises of guaranteed extraordinary returns, urgent deadlines, and secret investment opportunities are warning signs.
5. MONITOR YOUR ACCOUNTS. Review financial statements regularly and activate transaction and account activity alerts.
6. INVOLVE TRUSTED FAMILY MEMBERS. Consider identifying a trusted contact for your investment accounts who can be contacted in appropriate circumstances if concerns arise.
7. NEVER BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP. If something appears suspicious, pause and consult your financial advisor or a trusted family member before taking action.

The REA team was delighted to welcome our dear friend, Mylce Mella, an honorary member of the REA family, during her visit from Naga City, Philippines.

Mylce spent more than a decade as a journalist, television anchor, and field reporter with ABS-CBN in Naga City, bringing stories from the community to viewers through one of the Philippines’ most prominent television networks.

Naga City holds a very special place in our story. It is where Ben Equitan was raised and educated, making Mylce’s visit an especially meaningful connection to home, community, and friendships that have endured through the years and across great distances.

We truly treasured the opportunity to reconnect, exchange stories, share experiences, and simply enjoy meaningful time together. We hope her visit was as memorable for her as it was for our entire team.

Another meaningful day of community service and knowledge-based philanthropy—this time at the annual Denbigh Community Festival in Newport News, Virginia.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside fellow Lions from different clubs, each promoting important causes supported by Lions Clubs International.

For us, volunteering is not only about giving our time or resources. It is also about sharing knowledge, creating awareness, and encouraging people to become more engaged in issues that can improve their lives and strengthen their communities.

Many of these causes—environmental protection, hunger and homelessness, education, youth development, and mental and physical wellness—are also advocacies that are personally important to us and closely aligned with the community work we support at Ramiscal Equitan Advisors.

We continue to believe that meaningful change often begins with small acts of service. When individuals and organizations come together with a shared purpose, those small efforts can multiply into a much greater impact.
