SCHOOL IS IN SESSION! On my short 5 minute drive to the office this morning, I saw two different cars pulled over by VB motorcycle police.

Slow down and stay alert because Virginia Beach City Public Schools are officially in session.

Key School Safety Rules:

Stop for School Buses: Drivers must stop for any stopped school bus with flashing red lights and an extended stop sign. On undivided roads, traffic in both directions must stop.

Obey School Zones: Reduce your speed immediately to posted limits (usually 15–20 mph) when school zone lights flash.

Automated Enforcement: Virginia Beach uses active photo speed safety cameras in designated school zones, carrying a $100 fine for violations.

Eliminate Distractions: Put phones away; mobile device use and texting while driving through active school zones or near students is illegal and dangerous.

Watch for Walkers and E-bikes: Expect heavy pedestrian foot traffic, children at crosswalks, crossing guards, and students riding bicycles or e-bikes during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
