BIG CHANGES FOR VA APPRAISALS
Big changes are coming to VA appraisals starting May 1, 2026 — and it’s a big win for VA buyers, sellers, and agents.
Here’s what’s new:
• No peeling paint repair requirements for homes built after 1978
• Sheds and outbuildings no longer have to meet MPR standards
• Radon requirements for builders are eliminated
• No more oxygen depletion sensor or fireplace certification requirements
What this means:
Fewer unnecessary repairs, fewer delays, and a smoother, faster VA loan process.
VA financing has always been one of the strongest options out there. The issue hasn’t been the Veteran — it’s been outdated guidelines and appraisal friction.
This update is a major step forward.
