The IRS recently announced that the Affordable Care Act affordability indexed amount will be 9.12% for plan years that begin in 2023. This is a significant decrease from the 2022 percentage amount (9.61%). What does this mean for employers? The new criteria will make some employers with low contributions subject to ACA penalties if they do not increase the premium contributions to meet the new contribution threshold. What should you do now to avoid penalties? Employers budgeting and preparing for the 2023 plan year should review the affordability safe harbors when analyzing employee contribution amounts for the coming year.
