GREAT NEWS!! We are starting to see some signs of a softening in the insurance marketplace. The past several years have produced nothing but increases as agents scramble to find anything that resembles savings for our clients.

I hadn't posted over here for a while as I've actually been busy helping folks navigate the tumultuous waters of today's insurance ocean. At a time when many folks start thinking about "winding it down" and "retiring", I find that my book of business is growing at its fastest rate ever!! Why? Because knowledge is power and experience takes time...I am now the "old guy" that I used to look up to.

When I moved back to Victoria, men like John Brimberry, Ron Dixon and Bobby Jacob were the "Gold Standard" of professionalism and insurance acumen in our community. Now, I am that guy and while I don't know everything, I know where to find out about it and will do so for you.

The longer I'm in this business the more I realize why so many think of insurance as a "racket". BUT, two weeks ago I was in downtown Houston for an Astros game. As Dawn and I walked around and surveyed the damage wrought by a mid-week, unnamed, out of nowhere windstorm, I was amazed how much had happened that barely made the news.

Windows missing in many of the skyscrapers, glass all over the streets, restoration crews with hundreds of employees, emergency personnel ALL being funded by the "racket" known as insurance...while we didn't get even a drop of rain here in Victoria.

In no time, insurance rates will go up and it will be because of the tens of millions of dollars, in glass alone, being funded by carriers on behalf of commercial real estate in downtown alone!! Throw in all the tree removal and residential damage and I estimate the storm nobody knew about cost over $100,000,000 in Houston that week...while we didn't get even a drop of rain here in Victoria.

Hang in there, shop your coverage, and be aware of who you have to help you kick through the ashes, trees and debris when a claim comes to you. I'm the best there is, call me. 956-202-2322

I don't have a cute photo or fancy template to share here, just some cold hard truths:

Folks don't like change...to the point they will tolerate lousy service to avoid it.

The insurance marketplace is as "hard" as I've ever seen it meaning companies are at their least flexible on pricing in my career.

This has a lot to do with them recouping losses from events like Hurricane Harvey where Houston alone lost 1,000,000 vehicles to flooding!

Your account is exactly that, YOUR ACCOUNT.

Smart consumers shop their business or at least request a Marketing Report from their agent. You pay that agent every year; shouldn't he earn it?

If you own a small business, you know what a fickle and expensive market Health Insurance has become. I have had recent success with open enrollment windows and while I don't know it all, I have access to a team of professionals at GSM Insurors who consistently save folks money on their "small group" programs.

We are in a seriously "hard" market that is costing our insureds tens of thousands of dollars because of increases in premiums! I can't imagine you sitting on the sidelines right now and not aggressively shopping your commercial coverage.

The carriers are simply saying, "We are taking rate...you don't like it, move it" while not entertaining much new business. In times like these, it is critical to have an agency with multiple markets and the ability to tell your story in such a way as to minimize your premium increases.

Did you know that when folks, well meaning folks, ask you to become a board member you are accepting enormous amounts of personal liability?

Whether it's a private school, hospital or sports related entity, you need to ask the most important question as you consider joining their organization:

"Who is your Directors and Officers Liability carrier and what limits do they provide for your members?" It may seem pushy, but if the Board doesn't have D&O, YOU are on the hook for actions by the Board to indemnify a Plaintiff with YOUR wallet!!

Always make certain that an entity that needs your expertise provides coverage for your decisions and know your rights as a Board member. There is much good that can come from giving your time and wisdom; don't get sued without coverage by the actions of your fellow Board members!!
