Couple makes a difference by volunteering to help animals
ALLY TROTTER SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

For John and Bev Dodson, helping animals has been a passion they have shared throughout their lives, inspired by their deep love for them.

The Sallisaw couple has spent more than a decade volunteering with local rescue organizations, fostering animals in need and helping countless dogs find loving homes.

But long before the rescue work began, the two were simply high school sweethearts sharing a love for animals and a quiet life together.

Vian School Board accepts Willis’ resignation

Recognizes students, approves contracts in monthly meeting
The Vian Board of Education accepted the resignation of middle school teacher and coach Garett Willis and two others, recognized outstanding students, and approved several contracts and personnel items for the upcoming 2026-27 school year during its regular meeting on May 11.

In personnel matters, the board accepted resignations from middle school teacher and coach Garett Willis, elementary teacher Crystal Taylor and high school science teacher Brooke Tracey.
