Feeding the Farmers!

I had the absolute honor to travel with the Versailles FFA in the last couple of weeks to deliver meals to local Farmers in the area.

Growing up in the agriculture industry, I firsthand have seen the sacrifice the farmers make every single day. It was great to be able to give back to them for all they do!

Running a farm takes planning, hard work, and investment.
Your insurance should protect all of it.

I’ll share simple tips to help you keep your coverage accurate and effective.

We’ll start with five quick checks you can do today to strengthen your farm policy.

Tip 1: Review Your Policy Each Year

Your farm changes every year.
Your insurance should too.

Review your policy once a year to keep it current.

Ask yourself:

Did you buy new equipment?
Build a new barn?
Add livestock or change operations?
Small updates can make a big difference if you ever file a claim.

A quick policy review keeps your coverage where it needs to be.

Tip 2: List Every Farm Building Separately

Each building on your farm has a different use and value.
Your insurance should reflect that.

List every structure separately:

Barns
Machine sheds
Grain bins
Livestock buildings

If a building isn’t listed, it may not be covered for full replacement.

Check your policy and make sure every structure is accounted for.

Post 3: Keep Receipts for New Equipment

When you buy new equipment, keep your receipts.

Proof of purchase helps confirm value if a loss occurs.
Without it, the payout may be less than what the equipment is worth. Store receipts in one folder or take photos and save them digitally.

Documentation makes the claims process faster and easier.

Post 4: Update Your Agent When You Buy or Sell Machinery

Every time you buy or sell machinery, call your agent.

Adding or removing equipment keeps your policy accurate.
If a tractor isn’t listed, it may not be covered.
Your policy should always reflect what you actually own.
Keep it current to avoid gaps when something happens.

Post 5: Match Coverage to Building Use

Not all buildings are used the same way.
A barn that stores hay has different risks than a livestock barn or shop.
Coverage should match the purpose of each structure.
Talk with your agent about:
How each building is used...
What’s stored inside...
What level of coverage fits best...
