The start of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season begins today, June 1st. While NOAA is predicting a below-average season, NOAA’s National Weather Service Director Ken Graham says, “It only takes one storm to make for a very bad season.” Before the first system forms, know your home’s risk and review your insurance coverage to help ensure there are no gaps. Now is also a great time to make sure your home inventory list is up-to-date, and begin gathering your hurricane supplies, if you haven’t already done so. As a reminder, items such as batteries, flashlights, and tarps are tax free year-round in Florida as of August 1, 2025.
