New report just out from HHS on the state of Individual / Family Health Insurance since the Biden Administration established the Special Enrollment Period & implemented new premium subsidies:

Nearly 940,000 new sign-ups

Nearly 2 million who already had coverage received a savings of over 40% with new premium subsidies

Did you know Individual Health Insurance is now more affordable?

Why you ask?

Because the American Rescue Plan, just signed into law last month, has changed the criteria for qualifying for a subsidy.

What changed you ask?

Before, you could qualify for a subsidy if you made up to four times the Federal Poverty Level - for a single person in 2021 that was about $50,000 a year. If you made more than that you got $0 help.

Now it's different. Now the subsidy is based on what percentage of your income you pay for coverage. 8.5% of your income is "target" amount you would spend on health insurance - anything more relative to the benchmark plan is your premium credit.

For example, a person thinks they will make about $55,000 in 2021. A 50 year-old living in downtown Chicago would qualify for $92 a month in premium subsidy, lowering their monthly cost to $390 per month.

An older person at that same salary and location would receive an even bigger subsidy because coverage costs more at older ages.
