The City of Ventura recently approved a contract with Grindline Skateparks to design and construct the Westpark Skatepark Expansion Project. This marks the city's first-ever design-build contract and will increase the facility's size by more than six times, from 3,200 square feet to an impressive 20,000 square feet.

City officials conducted seven public meetings between 2019 and 2020 to gain the community's feedback on what elements they would like upgraded at the skatepark. Additionally, two public design workshops were held to gather feedback to create the skatepark's final design. These efforts demonstrate the city's commitment to involving the community in the project's development.

The pizza is as equally electrifying as the sign out front of the iconic Ventura pizza shop. In commemoration of more than six decades in operation, 63 years to be exact, Tony's Pizzaria, located downtown at 186 E. Thompson Blvd., debuted a new Las Vegas-style neon sign late last year that you can't miss. The newly installed sign is a tribute to co-owner Bruce Barrios' late father, Johnny "Tony" Barrios, and his love of Sin City. The new sign is designed around the original marker that stood at the site in 1945 when the location operated as a hamburger stand. Barrios purchased the building in 1963 for his pizza business, which started a few years prior in 1959.

City leaders in Ventura recently restarted the Business of the Month Program. The revamped recognition program is a collaboration between the City of Ventura Economic Development Division and the Ventura Chamber of Commerce and showcases the city's diverse business community while also expressing appreciation to the local companies that are the backbone of the city's economy. Ventura's Business Recognition Program will honor one local small business each month, and nominations are open to the public. Self-nominations are also allowed.

To be nominated for the Business of the Month Program, nominees must be for-profit "bricks and mortar" businesses that have operated in Ventura for at least three consecutive years.
