Some general insurance advice regarding catastrophes like our community is currently suffering:
✅ Do not hire someone to remove trees, tarp roofs, etc. without making them show proof of insurance and licensing and finding out how much they are charging you. Awful people take advantage of many during storms like this. Use a local company if at all possible.
✅ Know your deductibles and coverages. For our customers, call 1-800-ALLSTATE for policy information at this time.
✅ Insurance companies insure for perils. For example, if a tree damages your roof they repair damage from that tree. If that tree punches a hole in your roof, and it continues to leak for a month without you taking any action to prevent further damage and there is now mold an insurance company may not also pay for mold mitigation.
✅ Take photos. So many photos. Having too many is better than not being able to prove how damage occurred. Photos of trees blocking access to your property, trees or debris on structures and cars, photos of any food you dispose of, photos of any personal property damaged.
✅ To file an Allstate claim resulting from Hurricane Helene, please call 800-54-STORM at this time.
