Happy 80th Birthday to Mohawk Valley Community College!

Nearly 40 Oneida County employees and officials who are MVCC alumni gathered at the County Office Building in Utica to celebrate this milestone with a group photo and birthday cake.

For eight decades, MVCC has played an important role in educating students, preparing the workforce and strengthening our community. The partnership between Oneida County and MVCC continues to create opportunities for residents, support workforce development and help meet the evolving needs of our region.

With so many County employees among its graduates, MVCC’s lasting impact is evident throughout our organization and the communities we serve.

Congratulations to MVCC on 80 years of excellence, and here’s to many more years of partnership and shared success!

In observance of Columbus Day, all Oneida County offices are closed to the public today.

The Oneida County Office Building and Oneida County Parking Garage in downtown Utica are lit up in green, white and red in recognition of Italian-American Heritage Month and the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Italian-Americans to our community.

County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. today presented his 2027 operating budget and capital plan to the Oneida County Board of Legislators, proposing no increase to the County property tax levy while continuing strategic investments in the community’s future.

The proposed operating budget totals just over $577 million, while the capital plan retires nearly $19 million in existing debt and calls for approximately $17.9 million in new borrowing.

“This budget is about making the hard choices necessary to keep Oneida County moving forward while protecting taxpayers and investing in our future,” Picente said. “We have kept the property tax levy flat, continued to reduce the tax rate and made the investments necessary to grow our economy, improve our infrastructure, address housing and provide the critical services our residents depend on.”

The new identity brings together the communities, attractions, businesses and experiences that make Oneida County unique, while celebrating the people who contribute to its character and continued growth.

Tourism remains a vital part of our local economy, with visitors spending more than $2.1 billion in Oneida County in 2025 and supporting more than 16,000 jobs.
