šØ Donāt take any prescription medications? You still need to understand Medicare Part D! š
Part D is Medicareās prescription drug coverage, and enrolling in it is optional. But hereās the catch: if you go without Part D or other creditable prescription drug coverage for too long, you could face a late-enrollment penalty later.
Generally, if you go 63 days or more in a row without Part D or other creditable drug coverage after your initial enrollment opportunity, you may have to pay a penalty when you enroll. š³
And this isnāt necessarily a one-time feeāthe penalty can be added to your Part D premium for as long as you have Medicare drug coverage.
Even if youāre healthy and donāt take a single prescription, itās important to understand your options before deciding to delay enrollment. Some employer, union, and other health plans offer creditable prescription drug coverage, which may allow you to delay Part D without a penalty.
The bottom line? Donāt assume you can skip Part D just because you donāt take medications today. Know when youāre first eligible, find out whether your current drug coverage is creditable, and make an informed decision.
If youāre not sure what applies to your situation, Iām always happy to help you understand your Medicare options. š
