Charles Kirk Eddy, purchased the property in 1874. Eddy, purchased the property from grocer and carpenter George and Sara Mickley. Mickley started construction on the home and then selling it to Mr. Eddy the founder of extensive lumbering and salt manufacturing interest. Conducted by himself and his sons. Eddy was the youngest of eight children. He attended college in Charleston and Corinth Maine. After his college years he became a school teacher and then became a surveyor and civil engineer. In 1858 he moved to Ottawa Canada and engaged in lumbering. Eddy moved to Saginaw to follow the lumbering business. 1888 he bought a older sawmill. He enlarged the mill and updated it. He also owned the Michigan Dairy salt company. Eddy was a Republican. Eddy married Miss Albina Dunning of Charleston Maine in 1853. They had four children. Walter, Arthur, Charles and a daughter Lila. Charles Kirk Eddy Jr, died on 11/10/1900 from a auto accident which was the first auto fatality in Saginaw. Unfortunately Mr. Eddy was the driver, he hit a curb and his son flew out of the auto hitting his head causing head trauma. Mrs. Eddy passed away 03/30/1890. Eddy passed away 05/09/1901. In 1928 Arthur Eddy's widow sold the mansion to Claude and Hazel Ostrander. Ostrander operated a bar/restaurant and Mrs. Ostrander ran there grocery store, both located on Potter Street. Believed to be the old Depot Bar. Then in 1949 George Evans purchased the mansion to be used as a funeral home. The Evans family conducted business there until they sold the home in 2008. The mansion was then purchased by Deandre Johnson special needs trust. He and his family lived there until sometime in 2012. It is believed, after the death of DeAndre's mother who passed away in the home in 2011, his sister became in charge of the estate. Johnson then downsized to a apartment with his girl friend. Later that year Deandre's sister would abandoned the property, which left the mansion open to vandals and a liability to SunTrust bank who over saw his trust fund. In July of 2014 a coworker at Weichert Reality, informed me that Sun Trust wanted to sell or donate the property to a non-profit. I then went to work to obtain the property to prevent it from being torn down. In my 18 years of real estate this was the most daunting task to get the sale closed. I finally completed the sale on 11/14/2014. Move in date was 10/01/2015. Maurice Scott moved into the mansion full time. Christopher Traverse occasionally stays at the mansion, but will become a full time resident when there home on Bond street sells. The sale of 1903 N Bond will generate funds for future restoration projects.
