From the Missouri River to the Platte River, Dan Esch is the County Clerk for all of Douglas County. I have served as the Douglas County Clerk since November 2015. The Douglas County Board (by a unanimous, nonpartisan vote [4 Democrats, 3 Republicans]) appointed me to complete the unexpired term of the late Thomas F. Cavanaugh. In November 2016, I was elected to the position. Prior to my time as Douglas County Clerk, I worked as an assistant in the Douglas County Clerk's office for seven years. My team and I have consistently demonstrated fiscal responsibility, proactive transparency, award-winning work, and helpful service to residents. I am honored to serve the people of Douglas County, and will continue to work hard to earn and maintain your trust. Vote Dan Esch for Douglas County Clerk. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
I take my fiduciary responsibilities seriously. I understand it’s your money, not mine. While many government expense budgets have increased tremendously during the past ten years, my team and I have created efficiencies to help decrease expenses. In Fiscal Year 2009, the Douglas County Clerk’s office spent $1,978,386. In Fiscal Year 2019, the Douglas County Clerk’s office spent $1,762,843 - a reduction by 11%.*

Sharing important public information has always been a priority for my team and I, and we don’t wait to be asked for it. The Douglas County Clerk’s Office is the official record-keeper for the Douglas County Board. Douglas County has been involved in and/or experienced major events recently, including the juvenile justice center project, COVID-19, and CARES Act funding. My team and I regularly update the County Clerk’s website and social media accounts with information relative to these issues. The Douglas County Clerk’s Office also maintains many financial records. Every month, departmental budget-vs-actual reports are posted to the Douglas County Clerk’s website. Every week, the Douglas County Clerk’s office posts a list of Douglas County payments to vendors to its website so the public can see where their money is going. AWARD-WINNING WORK
My team and I hold ourselves to high standards, and our work shows it. The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded Douglas County with its 16th consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, and its 10th consecutive Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting. Douglas County is the only county in Nebraska to receive either of these awards from the GFOA. HELPFUL SERVICE
Former Douglas County Clerk Tom Cavanaugh coined the motto “We work for you.” The Douglas County Clerk’s office still follows that motto today. Everyday, the Douglas County Clerk’s office is connecting citizens to the government services they need. While most of the emails and phone calls the office receives are for services provided by other government offices, my team and I go the extra step to make sure that resident gets to where they need to go.
