Since 1776, no vocation has impacted the course of world history and human affairs like that of the American Soldier. Troops that have absorbed the foundational values and pledged an Oath to defend the Constitution believe in "service before self" and work at their own physical and psychological expense for a greater cause, so much so, that they often return depleted and brutally worn out as individuals prior to reintegrating in society.
Veteran's Day gives us a brief moment to pause and reflect on the contributions that these individuals have made to society-at-large and appreciate their efforts as the keystone of our civilization.
At Supreme Lending and in the mortgage industry in general, we frequently originate loans regulated by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
"VA Loans," as they're casually known, are 25% insured by the VA and carry a list of benefits for honorably discharged borrowers due to the relatively low-risk of a demographic forged in strict disciplines that translate into lower default rates than the average person.
These loans came about in 1944, less than 3 weeks after the D-Day Invasion, and helped the taxed minds and bodies of returning warfighters readjust to a civilian world that prospered momentously upon their return.
Less than 11 years after the surrender of German and Japanese forces, returning veterans had purchased close to 20% of all homes built and sold in America and gave birth to the Baby Boomer generation in these VA-backed houses and properties.
At Supreme Lending Corpus Christi, only a handful of us have served - and to those that have, we readily thank - but all of us work towards carrying this tradition of helping our Veterans healthily reintegrate into society and prosper through the means of homeownership.
Thank you for your service!
