Doing some pm’s this spring and noticing that the oil from these units is building up condensation. Dakota Generator uses AMSOIL small engine oil in its maintenance procedure. This will help combat condensation issues as well as help provide superior operation to your generator.

It is also recommended to let your generator run in the manual position periodically in the winter to heat up the oil and remove this condensation.

We are starting to see more and more issues with valve lash adjustment, the valves on the air cooled units need to be adjusted after the first 24 hours of generator operation and every 400 hours after that. The generator I serviced yesterday had no clearance on the exhaust valves and was holding them open a little not allowing heat from the valve to be dissipated and causing a slight start and run issue with the reduced compression from the open valve. I strongly urge you to look at your maintenance needs to ensure smooth and assured operation of your standby generator.
