The Education Department doubled down on its efforts to try to delay processing at least 170,000 student loan forgiveness requests submitted by borrowers who claim they were defrauded by their school. And with a key deadline now long passed, borrowers who should otherwise qualify for an automatic discharge of their federal student loans don’t appear to be receiving it.
