I’ve bought FOUR homes, and guess what? I was nervous EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. 😅🏡

From deploying before my first closing, to sticker shock in San Diego, to unexpected career changes, to wondering if we were crazy to buy a beach house…

I’ve had all the same thoughts I hear from buyers today.

And here’s what I’ve learned: You don’t have to feel 100% fearless to make a smart financial decision.

Every purchase came with different challenges, and not everything went according to plan. But I’m grateful for the opportunities those homes gave our family.

Now, as a mortgage lender, I get to help others navigate those same big decisions with more clarity and confidence.

🇬🇷 One of my favorite experiences in Greece was taking a cooking class and learning to make traditional Greek dishes! 👩‍🍳

I love learning new things, trying different approaches, and figuring out what works best. Turns out, that applies to both cooking and mortgage lending!

Fun fact… did you know I actually went to cooking school? 🍽️

Fortunately, I have a little more experience with mortgages than Greek cuisine! 😉

I promise I was a better pilot than this 🚁 In my defense, I had no instruments AND a malfunctioning flight control system. Not exactly ideal flying conditions!

Speaking of unexpected challenges, the Fleet Fly-In was unfortunately canceled due to hurricane damage. I was looking forward to connecting with everyone in Pensacola!

The good news? It’s expected to be rescheduled for the last week of January, so stay tuned for updates with Naval Helicopter Association - NHA!

How much house can you afford vs. how much house should you afford? Two very different questions!

I generally recommend aiming for 30–35% of your gross monthly income toward your housing payment.

That includes:
🏡 Principal & interest
🏡 Property taxes
🏡 Homeowners insurance
🏡 HOA dues (if applicable)

But there’s more to consider than just the numbers!

What will your income look like in the next few years? Are you planning to grow your family, change careers, or retire? What other financial goals are important to you?

Can you qualify for more? Absolutely. But qualifying for a mortgage and being comfortable with the monthly payment aren’t always the same thing.

My goal isn’t to get you approved for the biggest loan possible. It’s to help you find a payment that makes sense for your life, both now and down the road.

I grew up in Kensington, lived in Frederick, spent summers in Ocean City ☀️🌊, and graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis. ⚓️ So much of my life and family are still connected to Maryland.
