📈 Wondering what's happening in today's housing and mortgage market?
Our Market Update breaks down key trends, market activity, and insights that may impact homebuyers, homeowners, and anyone keeping an eye on interest rates. Here's this week's update to stay informed.
WHAT HAPPENED:
Interest rate markets remain very volatile, with rates changing several times during the same day.
The week ended with the highest rates seen since early 2022. The highly anticipated jobs report was weaker than expected and should have had a positive effect on rates, but the markets shrugged those numbers off and began driving rates back up.
WHY:
The war in Iran continues to constrain oil exports and is driving the price of a barrel of oil higher. This translates into higher input costs for businesses, and more pain at the pump for consumers. The prospect of higher inflation due to these price pressures is bad for interest rates in general.
WHAT IT MEANS:
Our takeaway is that the trend is towards higher rates, and if you’ve entered into a purchase agreement, locking in your interest rate sooner can save you money in the long run.
