We got a call yesterday from a homeowner in Apex who said the words you don’t hear every day:
“There’s a bull in my backyard.”
Sure enough, she had safely shut a stray bull into her fenced yard until help could arrive.
I called Heather and told her, “Get your work clothes on—we’ve got a bull to catch.” She meets me at the door asking, “Is this the same bull I’m seeing on WRAL right now?” Meanwhile, I’m on the phone with Animal Control trying to gather more details.
When we arrived at the home to assess the situation, we quickly realized this bull hadn’t just wandered into any backyard—he’d been lured in by a cute little Jersey cow who lived next door. Thanks to his attraction to this beautiful girl, he had absolutely no interest in loading up and heading back home.
That’s when we knew… this was a job for Hooey Dog.
With some hard work from Hooey, and a bit of patience, we were finally able to get the bull safely loaded into the trailer.
We’ve since learned that this romantic guy’s name is Whiskey, and we’ve been in contact with his owner. While they take a little time to make necessary fence repairs, Whiskey is hanging out at Wimberly Hay and Cattle where he’s safe, fed, and hopefully not missing his Jersey crush too much.
Grateful to the calm, kind homeowner who helped keep him safe—and proud of Hooey for once again proving why he’s the best four-legged farmhand around.
You never know what the day’s going to bring in this line of work!
