For some Medicare Advantage Plans, An HMO-POS is basically an HMO with a little more flexibility. You’ll generally want to use the plan’s network of doctors and hospitals to get the best coverage and lowest costs. But the POS—Point of Service—feature allows you to go outside the network for certain covered services. When you do, you may pay more, and not every service is covered out of network.” Got Medicare questions? Call/text me at 817/966-0980.

PSA: Your prescription COPAY can cost more than the drug’s cash price. It happens on ~1 in 4 prescriptions (USC study), and the middleman keeps the difference. Pharmacists aren’t required to volunteer that info. Ask “What’s the cash price on this?” every time, and check GoodRx or Cost Plus Drugs first

⚠️ Medicare is making another change in 2027 that could affect what you pay for your prescriptions. Here's what you need to know in 30 seconds.

From Medicare:
"The Medicare Part D redesign includes an annual out-of-pocket cap that began at $2,000 in 2025 and has increased to $2,400 for 2027."
What does that mean?

If your prescription drug copays total $500 per month, you would normally spend $6,000 over the course of a year. However, because of the Medicare Part D out-of-pocket cap, once you've paid $2,400 in covered prescription drug costs during 2027, you won't pay any more out of pocket for your covered Part D medications for the rest of the calendar year.

Compared with 2026, when the cap is $2,100, someone who reaches the cap will pay up to $300 more in 2027 before their covered Part D drugs are fully covered for the remainder of the year.

The good news? Your prescription costs still have a ceiling. The bad news? Everything else at the grocery store seems to have forgotten what a ceiling is.

Medicare Healthcare costs are expected to rise by 9% in 2027, the biggest increase in almost 20 years.

Experts say several things are causing costs to go up, including higher prescription drug prices, more people seeking mental health care, and new computer tools that help doctors and hospitals bill insurance companies more completely.

No matter the reason, rising Medicare healthcare costs usually lead to higher insurance premiums and more out-of-pocket expenses for consumers.

This is one more reason to review your coverage each year and make sure you have a plan that fits your needs and budget.

As a licensed insurance agent, I can help you compare your options to make sure you're paying as little as possible for doctor visits and prescriptions while getting the most from the benefits available to you.
