Almost 2/3 of property owners are worried about severe weather, but less than half feel fully prepared.

Only ~40% actually feel fully protected, and many would even consider cutting coverage to save money.

There’s a clear gap between how protected people think they are vs. reality.

Property owners say severe weather and natural disasters are their top risk now and for the next five years.

Workers’ compensation claims can escalate quickly — driving longer durations, higher costs, and greater litigation risk. The difference often comes down to what happens early.

See how a structured claims triage approach helps organizations identify high‑risk claims sooner, intervene more effectively, and reduce total cost of risk while supporting better outcomes for injured workers: https://usi.info/4mjSoay

The Umbrella/Excess market in NY is still tough.

Capacity is tight, terms are stricter, and continued pricing pressure across board.

Between social inflation, litigation funding, and nuclear verdicts, carriers are continuing to pull back capacity, push up attachment points, and scrutinize risks much more heavily—especially in NY.

That’s why strategy matters.

At USI, we’re being very intentional with how we structure and market these programs to drive the best possible pricing and outcomes for our clients.

There are a lot of property programs out there that are being underwritten on incomplete or outdated data.

Carriers fill in the gaps with third-party info, and at renewal it just rolls forward. That’s how you end up with inflated premiums—or coverage that doesn’t respond the way you think it will.

It all comes back to COPE: construction, occupancy, protection, exposure. If one input is wrong, the entire risk is mispriced—sometimes by 20%+.

We recently corrected a construction misclassification and reduced a client’s premium by 23%.

Details matter. Don’t take shortcuts.

Gain control over your property insurance costs by understanding the characteristics underwriters use to evaluate risks and determine premium.

Most companies don’t actually know if their workers’ comp program is competitive — they just know what they paid last year.

Benchmarking changes that.

It shows how you stack up on the key drivers like class codes, e-mod, and carrier pricing — and helps separate market increases from fixable issues.

If you’re not benchmarking, you’re basically negotiating in the dark.

Cargo theft is getting a lot more sophisticated—and a lot more expensive.

New data from CargoNet, shows cargo theft losses jumped nearly 60% in 2025 to about $725M.

What’s interesting is the number of incidents didn’t really increase much—the average value per theft did, climbing to around $274K.

Criminal groups are becoming more organized and targeting higher-value shipments, often exploiting weak spots across the supply chain.

This is resulting in tighter underwriting and more scrutiny around things like carrier vetting and pickup procedures.
