Attended a wedding last night, and it truly was a beautiful night. During the reception I was part or a conversation with one of my forever bachelor friends when he was asked when he was going to settle down, he responded genuinely with “What’s the benefit? He has never really put thought to it for the benefit.” The other married man and I in the convo responded peace of mind, coming home to someone you know has your back. His response is he has that without marriage.
Honestly to go deeper into this answer, the true benefit is actually something quite indescribable. For a man it gives a sense and feeling of completion, I believe this is why God said it is not good for man to be alone. Like the video says a “feeling like God put an angel on earth just for you.” Some might feel as though I’m going too deep with it, or like my friend responded he experiences that without marriage. If that is the case why not make it permanent, but an understanding I learned from my personal walk, the thing that makes this mindset difficult is that it is liken to the commitment we are called to have with God, the bond God wants us to have with him, covenant. This is available to all through Jesus and the happens at Calvary.
This is why I tell people marriage is much more than a promise or a commitment, it is a covenant, not something to be easily broken, if fact designed to only be broken by death. But there are multiple ways to die not just physically but spiritually. The figure of speech to “be dead inside” is really much more than just a figure of speech. This is also why I tell people don’t ignore red flags, this lifetime is actually way to short to waste time with the wrong person. Life is a mere glimpse in comparison with eternity, and life is the proving grounds for eternity our marriages are part of that journey/test, because of the learning experience. The word calls us to love our spouses the same way Christ loves to church, so that we can learn what love is in preparation for our experience in eternity with the Lord.
