On Thursday and Friday, our very own Kelly Brown attended the Cayuga & Seneca 4-H Youth Fair and Market Auction! Hosted just down the road at the Union Springs Fire Department, the fair featured youth projects in animal science, plant science, entomology, home economics, photography, and more.
On Friday, CLNB purchased a lamb from Ceia Haswell of Beacon Hill Farm in Cato, NY. Ceia worked hard raising the lamb and training him to show at the fair and auction.
At the auction, the buyer has the option to keep the animal or donate it back. Last year, CLNB purchased a lamb and donated it back to the owner so they could show him at the state competition. This year’s lamb was not headed to the state level, so CLNB donated it back to be auctioned a second time. This allows the proceeds from the initial sale to go to Ceia, while the proceeds from the second sale help support the continuation of the fair through materials, supplies, and programming managed by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County.
We’re proud to support hardworking local youth and invest in the communities we serve. This is just one of the few ways CLNB gives back!
