The Euclid space telescope has captured the largest and most detailed image yet of the Milky Way’s crowded center.

The image includes about 60 million stars and is made from nine photographs, each covering an area of the sky larger than the Moon.

While the image is visually stunning, scientists say it is also useful for research. It may help them study planets beyond our solar system through a process called microlensing, sometimes described as a “cosmic magnifying glass.”

That happens when the gravity of one star bends and brightens the light from another star behind it. If a planet orbits the closer star, its gravity can cause a small change in brightness that helps scientists learn more.

The image includes 51 known planetary systems and may help researchers conduct further studies.

It is a reminder that scientific progress often comes from combining advanced technology, patient observation, and the ability to see familiar places in entirely new ways.

New to pickleball or padel? Good news: both are beginner-friendly. Slightly humbling, but beginner-friendly.

For pickleball, start with placement before power. Learn the kitchen rules early, keep your paddle ready, and expect fast hands at the net.

For padel, don’t panic when the ball hits the wall. That’s the point. Focus on positioning, let the rally develop, and remember that not every shot needs to be a winner.

The real winning move? Pick the one that your friends will actually play with you.

Pickleball usually wins the “where can we play this weekend?” contest.

Many communities have pickleball courts at parks, recreation centers, gyms, and tennis facilities. USA Pickleball’s 2025 report noted more than 82,000 known courts in its Pickleheads database.

Padel courts can take a little more searching, as the sport requires an enclosed court with walls. Try local racquet clubs, indoor sports facilities, social clubs, and newer court-sport venues.

Either way, beginner clinics and open-play sessions are a great place to start.

Pickleball and padel don’t just play differently. They feel different from the first swing.

Pickleball uses a paddle and a hard plastic ball with holes. The court is open, the ball moves a little slower, and the game often turns into quick exchanges near the net.

Padel uses a perforated racquet and a lower-pressure tennis-style ball. The court is enclosed, the walls are part of the game, and rallies can get dramatic fast.

Pickleball brings the pop. Padel brings the ricochet.
