If you receive a robocall claiming to be from a government agency, do not engage or provide any personal information. Scammers are skilled at impersonating officials, and they often use tactics involving threats to your Social Security number, taxes, or Medicare benefits. They may pressure you to hand over sensitive information or make payments, insisting that dire consequences will follow if you don’t comply.

Understand that legitimate government agencies do not make unsolicited calls demanding personal information or payment. If someone on the phone tells you to act immediately—like wiring money, buying gift cards, or sending cryptocurrency—know that it’s a scam.

Moreover, don’t trust caller ID. Scammers can easily spoof numbers to appear as though the call is coming from a reputable source, including government offices. Always verify the authenticity of the call. If you have doubts, hang up and contact the agency directly using a known, official phone number. Protect your personal information at all costs!
