Mortgage rates showed some improvement today, and the bond market has continued holding onto yesterday’s gains — which is a positive sign for borrowers watching rates closely.

What this means in plain English:
Investors are becoming a little more comfortable with lower interest rates right now, which is helping mortgage pricing improve slightly. We are not seeing a major drop yet, but the market is moving in a better direction than it was a week ago.

Tomorrow’s unemployment report will be a big factor. If the job market shows signs of slowing down, there’s a good chance mortgage rates could continue trending lower over the next 30 days. Stronger-than-expected job numbers, however, could keep rates elevated a little longer.

Bottom line:
The market is showing early signs that rates may gradually improve, but we still need upcoming economic data to cooperate before we see a meaningful drop.
