🚨 House fire safety tip: check your power strips!

✅ Do:
- Plug heavy appliances directly into the wall (even small refrigerators).
- Use only power strips with a UL listed icon.
- Use surge protectors for limited, low-draw items (like behind a TV).

❌ Don’t:
- Don’t plug high-wattage appliances into power strips.
- Don’t overload surge protectors/extension cords—especially for kitchen or bathroom items.

👀 Watch for warning signs: burning smell, scorch marks, or a power strip that’s hot to the touch.

Fire officials are urging residents to take safety precautions to prevent house fires linked to power strips, following two fires in the city this summer.

Raised in Pamplona, Spain, Marta now calls Booneville, MS home. She first came to the United States as an exchange student where she met her husband, Christian.
