VA just made its appraisal rules more flexible — and that could help Veteran buyers compete.
The VA has updated several Minimum Property Requirement (MPR) rules used in VA appraisals, with the goal of reducing unnecessary delays and making VA-backed offers more competitive in today’s housing market.
The changes include revisions involving radon requirements, homes built before and after 1978, detached improvements, and certain non-vented heaters. VA says the average VA appraisal was approximately 7 business days as of May 31.
Important: a VA appraisal is not the same as a full home inspection. Buyers should still consider an independent inspection to evaluate the condition of the property.
