Insurance in plain English: Replacement Cost. And it's probably a lot different than what most people (not in insurance) think it is.
Say you have a fire in your home. That’s a situation where replacement cost comes in. That replacement cost is based on what it would cost to repair or replace your damaged property with something of similar kind and quality at today’s prices (subject to the terms and limits of your current policy).
Homeowner tip: If you’ve renovated, added square footage or made major upgrades to your home, let your insurance agent know right away. Those changes could affect how much coverage you need.
Your home changes over time. It’s worth making sure your insurance keeps up with it.
