We’ve talked about comprehensive and collision coverage and how they can help protect your vehicle. But there’s one more part of protecting your car that is easy to overlook:

Imagine you’re on the side of the road with a flat tire, dead battery, or a car that simply won’t start.

Emergency Road Service can help with things like:

Towing
Jump-starting a dead battery
Changing a flat tire
Locksmith service if you're locked out
Delivery of gas or oil when needed

It’s designed to help when your vehicle leaves you stranded.

🚙 Rental Reimbursement

If your vehicle is damaged in a covered loss and has to spend several days—or even weeks—in the repair shop, how are you getting around?

Rental reimbursement can help cover the cost of a rental vehicle while your car is being repaired after a covered loss, up to the limits you selected on your policy.

🚗 Protecting What Matters: What Is Collision Coverage?

Collision coverage is designed to help repair or replace YOUR vehicle when it’s damaged in a collision.

Here are a few common examples:

💥 You rear-end another vehicle.
🚙 You collide with another vehicle.
🧱 You back into a wall or pole.
🏢 You lose control and hit a building.
🔄 Your vehicle rolls over.

One important thing to understand: Collision coverage can apply regardless of who caused the accident, subject to the terms and limits of your coverage.

💵 Don’t Forget About Your Deductible

Your deductible is the amount you're responsible for when you have a covered loss.

Example:

Your vehicle has $5,000 in covered collision damage and you have a $500 deductible.

👉 Your portion: $500
👉 Your coverage can help with the remaining $4,500

Choosing a higher deductible may lower what you pay for your coverage, but it also means you'll have a larger out-of-pocket expense after a collision.

⚠️ Collision vs. Liability

This is where people sometimes get confused.

Liability coverage can help with damage you cause to someone else's vehicle or property.

Collision coverage can help with damage to YOUR vehicle.

And remember, collision doesn't cover everything. Things like theft, hail, flooding, vandalism and many other non-collision losses generally fall under comprehensive coverage.

Today I am going to continue discussing what your auto insurance policy covers you for.

🚗 What Does Comprehensive Auto Insurance Cover?

Comprehensive coverage helps protect your vehicle from damage caused by many things other than a collision.

Depending on your policy, it may help cover damage from:

🌩️ Hail, storms, and other weather events
🌳 Falling trees or objects
🔥 Fire
🚘 Theft or attempted theft
🦌 Hitting an animal
🪟 Vandalism and certain glass damage

💵 What about the deductible?

Your comprehensive deductible is the amount you’re responsible for paying toward a covered claim before your insurance coverage applies.

For example, if you have a $500 comprehensive deductible and a covered loss causes $2,000 in damage, you would generally be responsible for the first $500, and your insurance would pay the remaining covered amount, subject to your policy terms.

Choosing a deductible is an important part of your coverage. A higher deductible may lower your premium, but it also means you could pay more out of pocket if you have a claim. A lower deductible may cost more in premium, but it can reduce what you have to pay out of pocket after a covered loss.

🪟 Arizona drivers—don’t forget about glass coverage!

In Arizona, comprehensive coverage may offer a separate deductible option for qualifying glass losses, which can be as low as $0, depending on the policy and coverage selected. That can make a big difference when a cracked or damaged windshield needs to be repaired or replaced.
