✨ On this day in 1923, the magic officially began! ✨
One hundred and three years ago today, Walt and Roy Disney founded the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. Long before the theme parks, the streaming service, or even a certain famous mouse, it all started with a contract for a short series called the Alice Comedies.

As Walt himself always liked to remind people: "I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing—that it was all started by a mouse." 🐭❤️

Mary and Annie had very different experiences on Guardians of the Galaxy! Not pictured, Nicholas because he's too 🐣 to ride!

Tax Diversification in Retirement: Preparing Today for More Control Tomorrow

When most people think about retirement planning, they focus on one big question: “Have I saved enough?” That question matters, but it is only part of the story. The next question may be just as important: “How will my retirement income be taxed?” A retiree with a large account balance may still feel disappointed if too much of each withdrawal is reduced by taxes. That is why tax diversification deserves a place in every serious retirement income conversation.

Tax diversification means building retirement assets in different tax categories, so you have choices later. Instead of relying only on pre-tax retirement accounts, a well-designed plan may include pre-tax money, Roth money that can potentially be withdrawn tax-free, and taxable nonretirement accounts where long-term gains may receive a potentially more favorable capital gains treatment. The goal is not to avoid taxes entirely. The goal is to create flexibility, manage taxable income year by year, and help preserve more spendable income in retirement.

Today’s Tax Rates in Historical Perspective

Current tax rates can feel permanent because they are familiar, but history shows otherwise. The U.S. tax system has changed many times since the modern income tax began in 1913, with the highest recorded tax rate at 94% during World War II. Historical tax-rate charts can be helpful because they make one point visible: tax rates are not fixed. They are the result of legislation, economic conditions, and political priorities. Ask yourself, if future tax rates are higher than today’s, would you rather have all your retirement income exposed to ordinary income tax rates, or would you prefer to have choices?

Why Tax Diversification Matters...

With Q4 just around the corner, now is the time to review your year-end financial checklist.

Waiting until December to manage retirement accounts can lead to missed deadlines and unnecessary tax penalties. Early review may help you stay organized and meet your year-end deadlines.

As you review your portfolio this quarter, make sure to check off these three critical items:

☑️Satisfy Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs): Ensure all required distributions are processed accurately to avoid steep IRS penalties. 1

☑️Execute Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): If you are eligible and plan to give to charity, make sure your QCD checks are issued directly to the charity before the year-end deadline. 1

☑️True-Up Retirement Contributions: Review your year-to-date contributions for IRAs and employer-sponsored retirement plans to maximize your savings limits.

Don't wait for the December rush. Reach out to your advisory team this week to review your accounts and ensure everything is on track for a successful year-end.

🗓️ Annual RMD Reminder If you are required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) this year, it's important to plan your strategy early.

Eligible account owners generally have two approaches to satisfy the RMD requirement:

• Take the distribution directly: The distribution is processed as standard taxable income.

• Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD): Transferring funds directly from your IRA to a qualified charity may satisfy your RMD while excluding the distributed amount from your taxable income. For a qualified distribution, the charity must be a 501(c)(3), the funds must go directly from your IRA to the charity, and there are maximum QCD limits which apply.

📅 Remember: RMDs must be satisfied by December 31, 2026. While year-end may seem far away, we encourage clients to complete their RMDs well before the deadline to help ensure processing is completed on time and to avoid last-minute administrative delays.

❤️ If you're considering a QCD, completing it earlier may also allow your chosen charity to benefit from the funds sooner, helping support its programs and services throughout the year.

💡 Visit IRS.gov and consult your tax professional to determine whether a QCD is appropriate for your individual circumstances and charitable goals.

Happy National Quesadilla Day! 🧀🔥

As proud Tucsonans, we take our local food heritage seriously (shoutout to our UNESCO City of Gastronomy status!). If you are looking to celebrate today with a masterpiece of a quesadilla, here are our local, team-favorite spots around town:

Annie's favorite, 🌮 The Local Legend: THE QUESADILLAS
Mary's favorite, 🥑 The Award-Winner: AMELIAS MEXICAN KITCHEN
Tony's favorite, 👩‍🍳 Nothing beats Moms!
Madisen, 👩‍🍳 Same, Nothing beats Moms!

Let’s be honest, no matter how many great spots there are in Tucson, nothing beats a homemade quesadilla straight off Mom's comal. Cooked with love, perfectly melted cheese, and a secret recipe that can't be replicated.

The Pro-Tip: You have to call ahead to see if she's cooking, and if you're lucky, she might even make a batch of fresh guacamole to go with it.

Now it's your turn to chime in!

We want to know: Where is your absolute favorite quesadilla in Tucson? Drop your go-to spot or your favorite custom toppings so we can add it to our team lunch spreadsheet! 👇
