Traveling with your DOG? Confused about the screwworm situation and crossing the border? Here's what I found out today:
I crossed at Mariposa in Nogales and SPOKE DIRECTLY with a border AGRICULTURE AGENT. Here's what he said:
NO screwworm certificate is needed if your dog appears healthy and has not open wounds.
IF YOUR DOG IS SICK OR HAS OPEN WOUNDS: a screwworm certificate will be required.
ALL DOGS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A CDC DOG IMPORT FORM:
The import form is FREE and is good for 6 months. You can travel freely back and forth as long as the certificate is active. When it expires, you can obtain a new one online. Simple and easy.
ALL DOGS MUST HAVE PROOF OF VACCINATIONS - SPECIFICALLY RABIES VACCINATION.
The agent confirmed that if they see a dog in the vehicle, they are looking to see if the dog looks healthy and THEY ARE asking to see the CDC Form and vaccination records in most cases.
A Link to the CDC Form is located at the bottom of this post.
